Honoring Congressman and Civil Rights Icon John Lewis
Last night after the passing of Congressman John Lewis, John stated the following:
We need to honor John Lewis not only with words — but with action. The bill to fully restore the Voting Rights Act has been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk for 225 days. John is calling for it to be brought to the floor for a vote.
Record Fundraising
This week, John announced that his campaign raised $5.2 million last quarter, the most raised in any quarter by a Colorado Senate candidate. The average grassroots contribution to the campaign was $23.50, and 95% of the donations were under $200. Among the campaign’s 48,400 donors are 909 teachers, 192 scientists, an astrologer, and a traveling wind technician.
The Senate Needs To Get Back To Work
Over the last two weeks, John has called on both Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to end the scheduled two-week recess and return to work to pass urgent relief for Colorado families, small businesses, and medical workers. Among the urgent issues that Senator Gardner has failed to address are:
- Extending the unemployment benefits that are set to expire in two weeks
- Getting medical workers the protective gear they need
- Pass rental relief for the struggling homeowners and renters
- Standing up to Trump’s refusal to adhere to CDC guidelines for schools
- Addressing funding for testing amid a nationwide shortage
- Funding local communities and public services
- Fixing our health care system amid the rise of uninsured Americans
- Funding food assistance programs for millions of Americans
- Bitter bipartisan battle in the Senate
Endorsement Corner
As we get closer to November, John continues to rally support and earn endorsements. Just this week he was endorsed by Colorado AFL-CIO, Brady PAC, MoveOn, and Human Rights Campaign. These progressive organizations know John is the only candidate who will go to Washington and fight for gun safety, voting rights, LGBTQ equality, and working families.
Colorado Climate Leaders for Hickenlooper
John hosted a virtual discussion with state Senator Chris Hansen, former U.S. Senate candidate and Colorado House Majority Leader Alice Madden, and former state Senator and Colorado environmental champion Dan Grossman to talk about the urgency of combating climate change. During the event, all these leaders endorsed John because they know he will take immediate action to protect our climate.
President Trump and Senator Gardner have taken dangerous actions to roll back environmental protections and as governor John has proven to be the climate champion we need in the Senate. He passed “gold standard” methane regulations in a purple state and made Colorado a leader on climate policy.
Pushing for Vote by Mail
While Trump continues to misinform Americans about vote by mail, John highlights the ridiculousness of these claims and points to Colorado — where vote by mail has been a tremendous success. Watch John’s reaction to Trump’s lies about vote by mail HERE.
