Boebert’s candidate pledges to partner with Trump, pass national abortion ban if elected
COLORADO – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after State Senator Mark Baisley dominated the Republican Assembly, winning 45% of the vote, after Lauren Boebert introduced him.
“Coloradans want an end to the president’s corruption and relief from his cost-of-living crisis. The GOP’s extreme nominee couldn’t care less,” said Hickenlooper. “He is blind to President Trump’s cruel doubling of health care premiums, and he somehow supports Trump’s lawless ICE agents. He defended Trump’s illegal war with Iran that likely will add billions to the national debt without any clear victory in sight. I don’t think these are positions that will be wildly popular in Colorado. There’s a lot of work to be done, but I like our chances.”
At the assembly, Lauren Boebert introduced Baisley as her “great friend” who would stand by her and partner with President Trump. She attacked Hickenlooper for “falling for the green new scam.”

While Baisley is unabashedly pro-Trump, Hickenlooper has built a coalition to keep Colorado blue and defeat MAGA. He raised $1.4 million in the first quarter of 2026 and has more than $4 million cash on hand for his 2026 reelection campaign. He has continued to receive backing from major Colorado voices and leading progressive organizations.
Hickenlooper leads the other statewide candidates in Colorado as the only candidate to raise more than one million dollars each quarter since 2025.
TOO EXTREME FOR COLORADO
After Boebert introduced him, Baisley’s speech centered on pushing his extreme views like creating a national ban on abortion, attacking “gender studies,” and overturning common sense gun control.
Previously, Baisley blamed ICE protestors for the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Hickenlooper called out his remarks and Baisley confirmed his views, going as far as claiming that ICE “effectively saved” the five year-old boy when ICE detained him with his father and sent them to Texas, away from their family in Minneapolis.
Baisley went after Hickenlooper, stating that Hickenlooper’s biggest weakness was how he is standing up to the president for all his cruel attacks on Colorado. Meanwhile, Baisley has described the Trump admin as an “amazing Renaissance,” even as president vetoed Hickenlooper’s bipartisan bill to deliver clean drinking water to 50,000 Coloradans, denied emergency funding to help families rebuild their lives after wildfires and floods, and is attacking funding for science and arts across the country.
Baisley also has extreme views about the LGBTQ community, saying his LGBTQ colleagues in the Colorado General Assembly have a “brokenness in their spirit and in their minds” and are “in rebellion against nature.” Even as 60% of Americans support gay marriage, Baisley tried to ban gay marriage in Colorado in 2020 and introduced a bill to allow businesses and religious organizations refuse service for people based on their sexual orientation.
HICKENLOOPER IS FIGHTING TO PROTECT COLORADO
While his extreme challengers are focused on attacking our immigrant community and spreading the president’s lies, Hickenlooper has been standing up for Colorado and fighting back against Trump’s attacks.
Hickenlooper is a vocal opponent of the president’s illegal war of choice and has voted to restrict any further military action. He has voted against funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after the White House and Republicans refused to overhaul ICE. He condemned the reports of “death cards” left to intimidate families of people detained by ICE and is demanding DHS fully investigate the incidents. Hickenlooper helped stop Trump’s public lands sell off and has been fighting to defend American science from the administration’s constant attacks.
He is fighting to lower prices and secure refunds for all the taxes the Trump administration has illegally charged small businesses and Americans with their tariff-taxes.
