Today, as President Donald Trump goes to war with his own Center for Disease Control and threatens to withhold funding from schools that don’t comply with his orders, John Hickenlooper is calling on Senator Cory Gardner to condemn Trump’s dangerous move and get to work on a plan to keep America’s students, educators, and families safe.
“Trump’s latest threat to gut funding for schools who don’t comply with his timeline to open is dangerous. He should be providing guidelines for the safe and healthy reopening of our schools, not ignoring the advice of scientists and making political threats. And Cory Gardner should be standing up to him, not remaining silent and failing to stand up for Coloradans.”
On Monday, John called on both Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to end the scheduled two-week recess and return to work to pass urgent relief for Colorado families, small businesses, and medical workers. On Tuesday and Wednesday, he called on Gardner and the Senate to end their vacation early to get to work extending the unemployment benefits and getting medical workers the protective gear they need.
