Hickenlooper Announces Endorsement from BRADY PAC, Top Gun Safety Advocates

COLORADO – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper welcomed the Brady PAC’s endorsement of his 2026 Senate reelection campaign. Brady PAC is the political arm of Brady Campaign, which is a nonprofit organization that advocates for gun safety and against gun violence.

“Gun violence is a senseless epidemic – and one we can end,” said Hickenlooper. “Our fight didn’t stop when we defeated the NRA to create background checks and bans on large capacity magazines in Colorado. We doubled down in the Senate and passed the strongest national gun safety law in decades. We won’t let up.”

“As Colorado governor and U.S. Senator, Hickenlooper’s record on gun safety is second to none,” said Ashley Lantz, Executive Director of Brady PAC. “From creating universal background checks and banning large capacity magazines in Colorado to passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in the Senate, Hickenlooper has kept guns out of the hands of dangerous people and weapons of war off our streets. Brady PAC is proud to support Hickenlooper’s reelection for U.S. Senate because John Hickenlooper is the best choice for Coloradans who want to end gun violence for good.”

“I lost my daughter, Laura, at age 19 to preventable gun violence in 2001. My life was changed forever. When the Aurora shooting happened, I saw families begin an unwanted journey that I knew all too well. What matters most in those moments is whether leaders listen or look away,” Gun violence survivor Amanda Wilcox of Brady Colorado said. “John Hickenlooper acted, and he continues to act, to make sure that fewer families are forced to live with the kind of pain that mine does. John’s leadership means a great deal to me, and to every parent who hopes to have the opportunity to grow old with their children. We need him in the U.S. Senate.”

Brady PAC is dedicated to a singular goal: freeing America from gun violence by supporting and investing in candidates who are committed to enacting, improving, and defending Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) policies across the country. It upholds the policy ideals championed by its sister organization – one of the nation’s oldest GVP grassroots advocacy organizations.

In Colorado, Brady has five Team ENOUGH groups, Brady’s youth-led initiative, and other grassroots chapters that work to educate young people about gun violence and mobilize generation lockdown to bring about meaningful change on gun reform.

The GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, also recently endorsed Hickenlooper’s reelection campaign.

Hickenlooper has made gun safety a priority throughout his career in public service. As mayor of Denver, he was a member of the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. After eight years in that role, he took office as governor of Colorado in 2011.

In 2012, when a gunman killed 12 people in a movie theater in Aurora, Gov. Hickenlooper honored the victims not only with words, but with action, signing three new gun safety bills into law less than a year later. Those laws, which placed limits on ammunition magazines, required universal background checks, and charged gun owners for those background checks, were some of the first to be passed in the country after the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy propelled gun safety into the forefront of the national conversation in 2013.

In the Senate, he helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which expanded red flag laws, helped address the boyfriend loophole, expanded background checks for young gun purchases, and made historic investment in community-based mental health and violence prevention programs.

Hickenlooper also co-sponsors key gun safety legislation including the Assault Weapons Ban of 2025, the Background Check Expansion Act, and Ethan’s Law.

In addition to endorsements from Brady PAC and GIFFORDS PAC, Hickenlooper recently picked up backing from progressive action groups, including End Citizen United, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action, and 314 Action, which works to elect Democrats with backgrounds in science and medicine across all levels of government.
