Today, John Hickenlooper announced he has earned endorsements from local African American leaders from across Colorado, including Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and State Representative James Coleman.

Today’s endorsements include:

  • Denver Mayor Michael Hancock
  • State Representative James Coleman
  • Albus Brooks, Former Denver City Councilor
  • Happy Haynes, Former Denver City Councilor and School Board Member
  • Elbra Wedgeworth, Former Chief Government Officer for Denver Health
  • Dr. Margaret Wright, Pueblo D60 School Board Member
  • Angela Garland, Cherry Creek School Board Member
  • Stephanie Mason, Aurora Public School Board Member

“As the June Democratic primary approaches, I am voting for John Hickenlooper for the US Senate,” said Mayor Michael Hancock. “I’ve been fortunate enough to see his work up close, uniting mayors across the Denver Metro area to make FasTracks a reality, deliver affordable health care for people across the state, and rebuild Colorado’s economy while honoring every Coloradan. We need more leaders with strong executive experience, who know how to get things done and John is definitely that kind of leader.”

“As Mayor and Governor, John Hickenlooper put tremendous effort to make sure every student in Colorado regardless of race, color, national origin, or zip code had access to a high quality education,” said State Representative James Coleman. “At a time when schools across the country have had to rapidly shift to remote learning, it’s critical we ensure every student still has the same access to high quality education. John has proven time and time again to be a champion for our students and educators in all communities, and I can think of no one better to represent our state in the United States Senate than John Hickenlooper.”

“I had the opportunity to work side by side with John Hickenlooper in the Mayor’s office as he listened to the diverse needs across our city and responded with efficient and innovative services,” said Happy Haynes. “He  was also a champion for high quality and equitable education for all students in Denver. John has proven time and time again his commitment to prioritizing the issues that Coloradans care about and I know John will bring that same commitment to the United States Senate.”

“The future of our nation, and our planet, is on the ballot. That’s why we need John Hickenlooper to help us win back the Senate,” said Albus Brooks. “He helped build the city I fell in love with, then spent eight years showing what happens when we work together as Coloradans – expanding health care, passing gun safety legislation, and tackling climate change. Washington is broken, and Hick’s the fix.”

“I am grateful to have the support from these dedicated and inspirational community leaders,” said John Hickenlooper. “Together, we will win this election and get Washington working for Colorado’s families and small businesses.”

Today’s endorsements join an ever-expanding list of organizations and officials supporting John’s campaign for Senate because they know he’s the best candidate to defeat Senator Gardner and make Washington work for Colorado. Just this week he was endorsed by the Congressional Black Caucus PACGreater Metro Denver Ministerial AllianceStacey Abrams, and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar.
