Won 57% of the vote when AP called the race
COLORADO – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following video statement after he won his primary election for his 2026 reelection for U.S. Senate with 57% of the vote (at the time of this release).
“Today, Coloradans have once again made their voices clear: we’re not going to accept Trump’s broken promises and cost-of-living emergency or his corruption,” said Hickenlooper. “We have 127 days until polls close on election day to work together and deliver Trump a resounding defeat.. But, stopping Trump is just the beginning. We need to un-rig the system and deliver the big solutions that Coloradans deserve.”

Hickenlooper – who defeated Cory Gardner and flipped the Senate in 2020 – has stood up to Trump and his cruel attacks on Colorado. He helped stop Trump’s public lands sell off. He’s called out Trump’s violent immigration police. He has refused to fund ICE, shown up at ICE facilities for oversight visits, and helped Coloradans get released from ICE detention. Hickenlooper helped introduce legislation to force their agents to take off their masks and protect schools, hospitals, and places of worship from raids. He’s fought off Trump’s plans to give handouts to election criminals like Tina Peters from his $1.8 billion slush fund of taxpayer money.
Hickenlooper is laser focused on ending Trump’s cost-of-living emergency and flipping Congress to stop Trump and actually lower prices.
Since being elected, Hickenlooper has also rolled up his sleeves to address climate change, bring down costs for Colorado families, and force corporations to pay their fair share. He helped negotiate and write the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the largest investment in fighting climate change – EVER! He secured billions for Colorado to make housing more attainable, lower the cost of drugs for seniors, address the Colorado River crisis, and fight wildfires.
Hickenlooper now faces “MAGA Mark,” State Senator Mark Baisley, in the general election.

“I want to thank every voter who once again put your trust in me. Thank you to everyone who picked up a phone or talked to a friend – made a plan to vote.
“And thank you to State Senator Julie Gonzales. Thank you for your passion and your fight for working Coloradans. To your supporters, I hope you will join our fight. I’ve always believed that we are at our strongest when we are united together.
“I also want to thank our extremely dedicated team who’ve crisscrossed Colorado, they’ve put in countless hours, and they’ve never let up.
“Most of all, I want to thank my wife Robin and sons, Teddy and Jack, who have sacrificed hours of our time together as I’ve traveled back and forth to Washington and all across Colorado. I will forever be grateful.
“Now, our democracy is at risk – like we’ve never seen before.
“Our president has punished Colorado for voting by mail. He’s broken his promise of no more forever wars. He’s wasted billions on an unwanted war that’s claimed more than a dozen American lives.
“His secret police are terrorizing communities. They’re beating and killing people in the streets.
“We will not accept his cruelty nor his cost-of-living emergencies.
“We stopped Trump from selling our public lands and using his billion dollar slush fund to pay off criminals like Tina Peters.
“We have 127 days until polls close on election day. I still have never lost an election – I don’t intend to start now.
“But, stopping Trump is just the beginning. We need to un-rig the system and deliver the big solutions that Coloradans deserve.
“First and foremost, we’ll address Trump’s cost-of-living emergencies.
“That starts with fixing our health care system and, well, actually getting to universal coverage.
“We’re going to fight to restore the Republicans’ cruel health care cuts and to create a public option. We’ll bring down prices by empowering Medicare to negotiate all drug prices and rooting out fraud and abuse.
“Health care is a right. It’s about damn time that every Coloradan has a medical home.
“We’re going to also bring down prices in every dimension. We’re going to create more jobs. And we’re going to end Trump’s tariffs and build more housing. And we’re going to ban Wall Street from dominating the housing market.
“We need to end Trump’s attacks on our climate and environment. In 2022, we passed the largest climate investment rescue – ever. And we can’t give up. We need to invest in our clean energy future and fight to pass our bills to protect more than one million acres of public lands in Colorado.
“None of this is going to be easy, but when has that ever stopped us before?
