More than 20 State And Local Leaders From Across Colorado Endorse John Hickenlooper

Several Leaders Flip Support from Romanoff to Hickenlooper

Today, state and local leaders across Colorado are announcing their support for John Hickenlooper’s campaign. They join former Congressman John Salazar, former State Representative Wilma Webb and former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb in announcing their support for John this week.

The full group includes:

  • Former State Representative Sue Schafer
  • CU Regent Jack Kroll
  • CareerWise Founder and former candidate for Governor Noel Ginsburg
  • Gunnison County Commissioner Jonathan Houck
  • Gunnison County Commissioner John Messner
  • Arapahoe County Commissioner Bill Holen
  • La Plata County Commissioner Clyde Church
  • Westminster City Councilor Jon Voelz
  • Northglenn City Councilor Becky Brown
  • Thornton City Councilor Jacque Phillips
  • Steamboat Springs City Councilor Lisel Petis
  • Steamboat Springs City Councilor Sonja Maceys
  • Breckenridge Town Councilor Dick Carleton
  • Cherry Hills City Councilor Afshin Safavi
  • Cherry Hills City Councilor Al Blum
  • Dacono City Councilor Danny Long
  • Pueblo D60 School Board Member Dennis Maes
  • Durango School Board Member Mick Souder
  • Aspen School Board Member Susan Marolt
  • Metro District Board Member Allen Dreher
  • Former Arapahoe County Commissioner John Brackney
  • Former Mayor Pro Tem of Montrose Carol McDermott
  • Breckenridge Town Councilman Jeff Bergeron

Of these endorsers, several formerly backed Andrew Romanoff’s campaign and recently flipped their support to John Hickenlooper. Earlier this week, former Congressman John Salazar switched his endorsement from Romanoff to Hickenlooper, and former Denver City Council President Happy Haynes did the same last month.

“Without the bold leadership and advocacy by Governor Hickenlooper, the Colorado Senate and House would not have been able to pass the 2013 Colorado Civil Union law,” said former State Representative Sue Schafer. “This law was an instrumental step toward the U.S. Supreme Court passing the gay marriage law in 2015.”

“Since John and I first met when he was Mayor of Denver, I have only known him to be a thoughtful and effective leader, full of integrity,” said CareerWise Founder and former candidate for Governor Noel Ginsburg. “He has brought real opportunity to our state with new job creation, climate initiatives, and many other strategies that have made Colorado a better place to raise a child and build a career. John’s leadership as Governor also brought innovation in education and workforce through his support of Careerwise Colorado, which has grown over time into a national initiative.”

“I am thrilled to have the support of so many leaders from every corner of the state,” said Hickenlooper. “It took a bottom up approach, engaging every community and town across Colorado, to take the 40th state in job creation to the number one economy. It will take the same kind of approach to rebuild Colorado and our nation after the coronavirus pandemic, and that’s what I want to do in the U.S. Senate.”
