Hickenlooper continues to connect with Coloradans online during COVID-19
Social distancing and staying at home have shifted our campaign online. To keep you in the loop, Hickenlooper for Colorado is starting a weekly wrap-up of our outreach to experts, local small businesses, and everyday Coloradans to help make sure our communities have the resources they need to get through this together.
To catch you up, here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
Call for Universal Testing
In an op-ed published in the Denver Post, John called for the United States to scale up its capacity to test for COVID-19 to defeat the virus and help Americans get back to work: “To get our economy back on track, we need to begin scaling up our capacity to test every American so each person knows if they are a risk to themselves or others.”
Connecting Colorado With the Experts
John kicked off this week with a Facebook Live Q&A with former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. During their live conversation, they discussed the need to protect the Affordable Care Act and how to improve the United States’ health care infrastructure to fight epidemics.
John also caught up with the CEO of National Vote At Home Institute and Coalition, Amber McReynolds. They talked about how as governor, John signed a law to make vote-by-mail a reality and why we need to expand it nationwide more than ever.
Roundtable with Community Leaders
John hosted an online roundtable discussion with Colorado leaders in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community to talk about how we can work together to recover and stand against discrimination.
Share Your Story
Coronavirus is affecting every single Coloradan, and we’re asking everyone to share their stories. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some of what we’re hearing from folks across the state — stay tuned.
Small Business Saturday
We’re spotlighting small businesses every Saturday and encouraging all Coloradans to — safely — keep shopping local. Last week John had a conversation with soul food expert and James Beard award-winning author Adrian Miller over some barbeque about the important contributions of small businesses, especially in communities of color. John ordered from the Hungry Wolf BBQ and Adrian ordered from AJ’s Pit Bar-B-Q.
