Hickenlooper Picks Up Slate Of Endorsements From Leaders Across Colorado

More Leaders Flip Support from Romanoff to Hickenlooper

Today, former President of Colorado State University Al Yates joins state and community leaders across Colorado to announce their support for John Hickenlooper’s campaign for the U.S. Senate. They join dozens of other leaders that endorsed John’s campaign just last week.

  • Former CSU President Al Yates
  • State Rep. Shannon Bird
  • Former Prowers County Commissioner and Colorado Agriculture Commissioner John Stulp
  • Gunnison County Commissioner Roland Mason
  • Alamosa City Councilor Kristina Daniel
  • Former Glenwood Springs Mayor Bruce Christensen
  • Former Ridgway City Councilor Tom Heffernan
  • Former Senate Minority Leader Lucia Guzman
  • Former State Senator Cheri Jahn
  • Pueblo City Councilor Ed Brown
  • Loveland City Councilor Andrea Samson
  • Fruita City Councilor Ken Kreie
  • Ridgway School Board Member Tim Taplin
  • Former Denver City Councilor and School Board Member Rosemary Rodriguez
  • Former Northglenn City Councilor Jordan Sauers
  • Former Denver School Board Member Lisa Flores
  • Yesenia Arreola
  • Tatiana Feigenblatt
  • Nita Gonzales
  • Rudy Gonzales
  • Christian Jimenez
  • Romaine Pacheco
  • Alex Sanchez

Some of these endorsers formerly backed Andrew Romanoff’s campaign and recently flipped their support to John Hickenlooper. Last week, former Congressman John Salazar and several other state and local leaders switched their endorsements from Romanoff to Hickenlooper, and former Denver City Council President Happy Haynes did the same last month.

“This moment requires a leader who has proven he will fight for our families and our communities and can win to deliver the change we need, and that is why I am supporting John Hickenlooper,” said former CSU President Al Yates. “John expanded access to health care, set groundbreaking climate standards and stepped up when Trump and Cory Gardner failed. We should be focused on defeating Republicans instead of repeating their attacks like Andrew Romanoff has done. I hope he reconsiders the tone he’s taken in this race. Like so many of my friends who have dedicated their work to serving Colorado, I’ll continue my focus on nominating John in the primary and electing him in November.”

“Colorado needs Governor Hickenlooper’s leadership now more than ever,” said state Representative Shannon Bird. “He is a unifying leader with a proven track record of bringing people together and getting important things done. Whether it is protecting women’s reproductive rights, our environment or building Colorado’s economy to be the strongest in the nation, Governor Hickenlooper delivers. Colorado and our country absolutely need his positive, forward thinking leadership in the United States Senate.”

“I’ve had the privilege and opportunity for over a decade to work with John Hickenlooper. He’s now a candidate for US Senate and I could not be more pleased,” said former Prowers County Commissioner and Colorado Agriculture Commissioner John Stulp. “Over the years our discussions have included what’s best for Colorado and the nation, how to restore confidence in government, and a focus on rural issues. I met John Hickenlooper about 12-13 years ago and worked directly with him for 8 years and he has never disappointed me in his decency and energy to make Colorado a better place for all of us. I’ve always appreciated John’s engagement in Colorado rural issues, whether it’s agriculture or water, Main Street, or our great open spaces. John’s commitment to a better way for all of us has never been needed more than now in the US Senate.  Hick has always run positive campaigns, not needing to build himself up by tearing others down. I am voting for John Hickenlooper because he is the right person for what Colorado and this Nation need now in the US Senate.”

“I am grateful to have the backing of these outstanding Colorado leaders,” said Hickenlooper. “We need to beat Cory Gardner and flip this seat, and this growing team is the one that can get it done. Coloradans know my record of bringing people together to get big things done, like expanding access to health care, improving gun safety, and combatting climate change. And standing alongside folks from every corner of our great state, that’s just what I intend to do in the U.S. Senate.”
