To mark the 10th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, John Hickenlooper released the following statement calling on Republicans to withdraw their reckless lawsuit that would overturn the law and encouraging Coloradans to take advantage of a special enrollment period to get insured during the COVID-19 outbreak:
“These are scary times, and access to health care is at the top of our minds like never before. Ten years ago, we passed the Affordable Care Act to stop insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions and make sure that all plans covered essential benefits like prescription drugs and preventative care.
“Unfortunately, a decade later, Washington politicians are STILL trying to repeal the ACA and end its lifesaving protections with a lawsuit now before the Supreme Court. I am calling on Republicans to withdraw their reckless lawsuit today. At this critical moment for the health of our nation, these political games must stop.
“When I was Governor, we used the ACA to get insurance for 500,000 more Coloradans through our bipartisan expansion of Medicaid and private insurance on Colorado’s marketplace. And as we face today’s pandemic, Colorado has opened up our ACA insurance marketplace to help everyone who needs insurance get it. If you’ve recently lost your job or if your insurance has lapsed, go to ConnectForHealthCO.com to find a plan that works for you.”
This evening, at 6 pm MT, Hickenlooper will be hosting a Facebook Live dialogue with Andy Slavitt, a health care policy expert who formerly served as the Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The two will discuss the legacy of the Affordable Care Act and the latest developments in the COVID-19 outbreak. Tune in HERE.
