Tonight, after Telemundo’s Spanish language debate, Colorado Latino leaders released the following statements applauding Hickenlooper for his strong record and commitment to fighting for Latino Coloradans:
“This afternoon’s Telemundo debate shows yet again that John Hickenlooper is the right choice for Colorado,” said former state Senate Minority Leader Lucía Guzmán. “As a Cabinet member serving with Mayor John Hickenlooper and as the Democratic Senate Leader in the General Assembly, I have witnessed John’s commitment to civil rights. Meanwhile, Senator Gardner has stood silently by as President Trump lobbed racist attacks and policies against the Hispanic community. Colorado deserves better than a Senator who refuses to protect the people he was elected to serve.”
“COVID-19 has hit Colorado’s Latinx community disproportionately, and not only has Senator Gardner failed to stand up to President Trump, but he has failed to deliver the relief that our families, small businesses, and frontline workers so desperately need,” said state Senator Julie Gonzales. “We need a Senator who will listen to and stand up for Colorado’s Latinx community, and we saw this afternoon that’s what John Hickenlooper will do. He will protect and expand access to health care instead of trying to rip coverage away from people in the middle of a pandemic; he will fight for working families instead of serving only the wealthiest special interests, and he will combat climate change instead of letting polluters spew more harmful emissions.”
“We need John Hickenlooper in the Senate,” said state Senator Robert Rodriguez. “Colorado deserves better than the gridlock and partisanship we’ve seen with Cory Gardner. As mayor and governor, John has stood up for Colorado values and worked across the aisle to get things done, and that’s what we need to change Washington. From overseeing a massive expansion of our public transit system to supporting Colorado’s immigrant community, I know John is the leader to see us through these turbulent times and help us build back stronger and more equitably than before.”
