WATCH: Hickenlooper Calls for Bold Climate Action in “NowThis” Video

In New Audio, Cory Gardner Repeatedly Denies Climate Science

In a new digital video from NowThis, John Hickenlooper highlights the climate-fueled wildfires that plagued Colorado this year and calls for urgent, bold action to address the climate crisis on day one. Hickenlooper’s climate plan calls for net zero carbon emissions as soon as possible and investments in renewable energy and green jobs.

In the video, Hickenlooper also calls out Senator Cory Gardner’s refusal to acknowledge the connection between raging wildfires and climate change. Yesterday, HuffPost exposed a must-hear 2017 interview in which Senator Gardner repeatedly refused to accept the scientific consensus that humans fuel climate change. During his time in the Senate, Senator Gardner has refused to take action and even voted with President Trump to make the climate crisis even worse.

Transcript:

HICKENLOOPER: The climate crisis isn’t coming; it’s here, and it is already wreaking havoc. Here’s what it means for Colorado.

Record setting wildfires across Colorado have burned nearly 300,000 acres, our air quality is hazardous, thick clouds hang over our communities, and birds are literally falling out of the sky as part of a massive die-off.

There’s no denying that the fires are significantly more intense this year than in the past.

We’ve had three of the worst fires in our history in this past year. Like Governor Inslee in Washington State said: “these are not just wildfires. They are climate fires.”

The crisis is threatening our way of life. If we’re going to fix the crisis for Colorado and for our country, we have to take bold climate action—and it must be a priority on day 1.

We need to invest in renewable energy, create good quality clean energy jobs and protect clean air and water for every community.

We don’t need more empty gestures or thoughts and prayers. And Cory Gardner has offered nothing more.

Cory follows science-deniers, like Donald Trump, and has refused to acknowledge the connection between these increasingly devastating wildfires and climate change.

Gardner has tried to greenwash his anti-environment record. In reality, he is silent when it matters and afraid to stand up to big oil and gas companies that fund his campaign.

In order to address climate change head-on, we have to flip this seat and flip the Senate.
