“John Hickenlooper is what a public servant should be: caring and effective”
Today Hickenlooper for Colorado released a new TV ad, “Eli,” taking a personal look at John Hickenlooper’s work expanding Medicaid to cover more services for kids and adults with disabilities and Senator Cory Gardner’s votes against protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
In the ad, Betty Lehman from Denver introduces her son Eli, who has autism and complex care needs, and discusses her work with Hickenlooper to expand Colorado’s Medicaid program to cover more services for people with disabilities. As Governor, Hickenlooper worked to expand access to therapies and care for thousands of Colorado families.
In sharp contrast, Senator Gardner has voted over a dozen times to destroy the Affordable Care Act and supports a lawsuit to overturn the law and its protections for pre-existing conditions — even in the middle of a pandemic. On the campaign trail, Senator Gardner has lied to Coloradans, touting his eight-line bill that that independent fact checkers say would still allow insurance companies to deny coverage to the 2.4 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions. In the ad, Betty Lehman also references Gardner’s vote in the state legislature against insurance coverage for autism treatment.
Transcript:

Then John Hickenlooper made that happen. It was extraordinary.
Cory Gardner? He voted against protecting any pre-existing condition. He even voted against treatment for autism. Who does that?
