Hickenlooper: “Washington’s failure is what is truly ‘unfathomable.’ Cory Gardner should be at work trying to help Colorado families.”
100 days ago, Senator Cory Gardner tweeted it would be “unfathomable” for the U.S. Senate to go on vacation without addressing the growing COVID-19 crisis and delivering desperately needed relief to millions of struggling families.
Instead, the Senate and Senator Gardner did go on vacation, several times, without taking a single step to get relief to Coloradans. Now the Senate is on a month-long vacation until September while millions of families struggle to pay their bills, make their rent or mortgages, and put food on the table without the support they need.
Today John Hickenlooper released a video highlighting Senator Gardner’s political stunt, Washington’s dysfunction, and the urgency to pass relief now.
TRANSCRIPT
“It’s unfathomable that the Senate is set to go on recess without considering any additional #COVID19 assistance for the American people. Anyone who thinks now is the time to go on recess hasn’t been listening. Coloradans and Americans alike have sacrificed and are hurting.”
100 days ago, Senator Cory Gardner made a big stink of keeping the Senate from its Memorial Day vacation because it was “unfathomable” they wouldn’t get desperately needed COVID relief to millions of Americans.
Unsurprisingly, he caved.
Since then millions of Americans have lost their jobs. Millions are struggling to make rent, pay their mortgages, and put food on the table.
Hundreds of thousands of Coloradans lost their emergency unemployment insurance, small businesses are struggling to stay afloat, and Donald Trump’s administration is actively working to undermine the United States Postal Service and kick Coloradans’ off their health care.
Not only have we not heard a peep from Cory Gardner, but he and his Senate buddies are currently on another vacation — since the middle of August till after Labor Day! You’ve gotta be kidding me!
When I was a small business owner, mayor, or governor facing a crisis, we knew we couldn’t afford to take a break, let alone leave town for a month-long vacation!
Washington’s failure is what is truly “unfathomable.” Cory Gardner should be at work trying to help Colorado families.
I promise to always put Colorado first — especially when times are tough. Always.
