On Friday, John Hickenlooper spoke with several local TV stations to denounce President Trump’s attacks on the United States Postal Service, discuss how children can safely return to school, and condemn the Senate’s inaction to deliver COVID relief to struggling families.
Check out some of the coverage below:
“The USPS Should Not Be Political”
John went on KRDO Colorado Springs to denounce Trump’s attacks on the United States Postal Service and call out Senator Cory Gardner’s silence in the wake of Trump’s attacks on democracy. President Trump admitted on Fox News this week that he wants to weaken the USPS to target mail-in ballots across the country.
“The post office should not be political. Voting by mail should not be political. We’ve proved that it works here. It’s cheaper. It’s more reliable. We have high turnouts. And in COVID, it’s safe,”
Senate Republicans failed to include election funding in their inadequate COVID relief proposal. Gardner opposes universal vote by mail and was recently caught echoing Trump’s talking points at a private fundraiser. When John was governor, he implemented Colorado’s successful vote by mail system.
Senate Inaction on School Funding
Colorado Springs’ KXRM dropped into John’s virtual roundtable with parents across Colorado who are concerned about the challenges of their kids going back to school during a public health crisis.
Gardner and Mitch McConnell have failed to act on a House-passed bill to help schools reopen safely and just left town for yet another recess without delivering the relief families and schools so desperately need. Instead, President Trump and Republicans have ignored the advice of scientists and tried to blackmail schools into opening before they’re ready to safely do so.

“And the White House continues to, well it’s almost black mail, to blackmail schools and force them to ignore CDC guidelines and the guidance of public health experts. It’s reckless.”
