John Hickenlooper released the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision rejecting the first direct challenge to Roe v. Wade since Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation cemented an anti-choice majority:
“This is good news — politicians shouldn’t interfere with reproductive rights, period. Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, and I’m glad the Court respected our democratic values and followed that precedent.
“Yet the attacks will continue. Senator Cory Gardner has tried to chip away at reproductive freedoms by voting for anti-choice laws and confirming the rigid judges who dissented today. And this fall, anti-choice activists will once again ask Coloradans to restrict personal health care decisions — a ballot measure I’m confident we’ll reject.
“We need to elect pro-choice leaders at every level of government who will reject these attacks on our most personal rights and freedoms. And we can start by flipping Colorado’s Senate seat. Let me be clear: I’ll fight for reproductive rights, full stop.”
Hickenlooper has been endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America, which praised his record of expanding access to reproductive health care in Colorado.
