Today President Trump — Backed By Gardner — Asks U.S. Supreme Court to Overturn Affordable Care Act
Today John Hickenlooper released the following statement as President Trump is expected to file a legal brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act, likely ending its protections for pre-existing conditions, Medicaid expansion, and other key public health benefits:
“The fact that anyone would want to eliminate access to healthcare is unconscionable — but especially during a pandemic. Yet today, with Senator Cory Gardner’s full support, President Trump will ask the highest court in the land to overturn the Affordable Care Act and end coverage for millions of Americans. It’s unreal — but it’s exactly what Washington Republicans have been trying to do for a decade.
“While I was Governor, Colorado expanded Medicaid and cut our uninsured rate by nearly two-thirds. Now over half a million more Coloradans could need Medicaid to make it through the coronavirus crisis. Senator Gardner and President Trump’s lawsuit would rip the rug out from under them and everyone else who relies on the ACA, like the 2.4 million Coloradans with preexisting conditions. We need new leadership in Washington to protect and expand access to affordable health care instead of playing political games that put lives at risk.”
