Hickenlooper Leads Gardner Among All Key Groups
Two new polls released yesterday show John Hickenlooper to be popular with Colorado voters while Senator Cory Gardner struggles a year out from Colorado’s Senate election.
A Keating-OnSight-Martin poll contrasted the favorabilities of Hickenlooper and Gardner, with Hickenlooper’s favorability at net +16 (51-35) and Gardner’s underwater by 11 (34-45).
The pollster told Colorado Politics, “Hickenlooper is dominating Gardner among all of the key groups and areas needed to win statewide races in Colorado — women, unaffiliated voters, Latinos, suburban swing counties near Denver and college-educated voters.”
And they noted to the Denver Post: “It’s no wonder Gardner is routinely called the most vulnerable incumbent senator in the country…He’s barely above water with members of his own party, and the Trump anchor is pulling him beneath the surface with unaffiliated voters, whose support is a necessary ingredient for success in Colorado.”
Meanwhile, Morning Consult found that Gardner has the third worst approval rating of the entire U.S. Senate—that is in 98th place out of 100, and his net approval dropped by 3 points since last quarter.
“Coloradans want a Senator who puts people over partisanship, and they know that’s not Cory Gardner,” said Hickenlooper for Colorado Spokeswoman Melissa Miller. “John Hickenlooper has a record of doing what’s right and getting results, and that’s the change Coloradans want in Washington. No matter what any poll shows, John will do what he’s always done – go everywhere, talk to everyone and work hard for every vote.”
