IN THE LOOP: Testing, Health Care, and Vote by Mail

This week, John Hickenlooper continued to highlight the need for more testing in order to reopen the economy. As the Connect for Health Colorado special enrollment period closed, John also wrote an op-ed about the impact of the Affordable Care Act and the need to protect it from attacks. And during this time when connecting with our neighbors is more important than ever, dedicated volunteers for Hickenlooper for Colorado connected with tens of thousands of Coloradans to check in and ensure they have the resources they need.

Hick on MSNBC
John kicked off the week by joining Stephanie Ruhle this past Monday on MSNBC to highlight the urgent need for more testing. John knows that in order to combat this virus, we need to have testing resources available so that we can get the economy safely working.

Op-Ed on the Affordable Care Act
Earlier in the week, John’s op-ed ran in newspapers across Colorado in which he explained how the Affordable Care Act is essential to helping Colorado fight COVID-19. The ACA helped 400,000 Coloradans get insurance through the state’s bipartisan Medicaid Expansion, protected people with preexisting conditions, and saved at least eight rural hospitals from closing. Despite this, Washington Republicans are still trying to repeal the law when Coloradans need it most.

Interview with an Expert
John had the chance to talk to Dr. Ivor Douglas about his perspective on lowering health care costs as a doctor in the Intensive Care Unit at Denver Health. Dr. Douglas has been working hard day in and day out to help our community weather this pandemic.

Grassroots Volunteers
Our volunteers sent over 85,000 texts this week alone, reaching out to our fellow Coloradans to help make sure they have access to the resources they need during COVID.

Share Your Story
John continues to speak directly with Coloradans who are sharing their stories of how this crisis is impacting them. This week, he heard from Gerald in Colorado Springs, and he talked about keeping hope alive and remaining grateful for essential workers on the frontlines.

Takeout Tuesday and Small Business Saturday
For #TakeoutTuesday John and Robin got (mask-clad) pick-up from a neighborhood restaurant, Tables.

For #SmallBusinessSaturday, John chatted with Evan, owner of LVTD Design. Since we’re all working and learning from home, they’ve shifted their business to make easy-to-assemble desks for kids and families

Hickenlooper’s New Single About Vote By Mail
The Wisconsin primary made it more clear than ever that voters across the country need to be able to vote by mail. After writing an op-ed and talking about it on national and local TV, John wrote his own original song to promote the importance of vote by mail.
