IN THE LOOP: Helping Colorado Through COVID-19 - John Hickenlooper for U.S. Senate

IN THE LOOP: Helping Colorado Through COVID-19

As we all continue our efforts to flatten the curve and fight COVID-19, this week John Hickenlooper urged Washington to stop playing games with public health and wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post on how Colorado is a model for universal vote-by-mail. John continues to hear stories from and is working to support Coloradans and local small businesses through this crisis.

The Last Word on MSNBC
Last night, John joined Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s The Last Word to highlight the leadership of governors across the country while the federal government fails to deliver desperately needed resources during this crisis.

Watch HERE:

“When I was governor, the federal government was careful and made sure that the population, infection rates, and overall need would be the criteria by which necessary supplies would be circulated and distributed. That’s obviously not happening if you’re using them as political favors.”

It’s Time for Universal Vote-by-Mail
In an op-ed published by the Washington Post, John makes the case for expanding vote-by-mail to the rest of the United States, especially during an era of physical distancing. As governor, he signed laws to make sure that a ballot got to the mailboxes of all Colorado voters.

The Get More Smarter Podcast
This week, John was on the Get More Smarter podcast to talk about campaigning during coronavirus, the government response to COVID-19, what it’s like to be a governor in a time of crisis, and the challenges of getting your hair cut during a quarantine.

Listen HERE.

“We also have to spend more time understanding the real granular reality of what this crisis is doing to people’s lives in Colorado, and to really understand how we got to this point. In what ways did the White House, or the other institutions in Washington, play a part in exaggerating and making it worse?”

Connecting Colorado with the Experts
Dr. Tillman Farley and Mark Masselli joined John to discuss telehealth and expanding access to health care. They highlighted how telehealth can benefit rural communities in Colorado during COVID-19.

Conversation with Denver Pipefitters Local 208
John hosted a virtual discussion with Denver Pipefitters Local 208 about the importance of supporting working families and protecting workers’ unions across the country to make sure that the odds aren’t stacked against them.

Share Your Story
Coronavirus is affecting every single Coloradan, and we’re asking everyone to share their stories. This week John called Tia in Colorado Springs, who told him that after being furloughed from her job she’s not sure if she’ll have enough to support her family.

Takeout Tuesday and Small Business Saturday
Every Tuesday, John is encouraging Coloradans to order from local restaurants. This past Tuesday, he ordered takeout from Steuben’s.

For this week’s Small Business Saturday, John caught up with the owners of Taluna Distillery to hear about their quick transition to making hand sanitizer and how they’re providing their community with desperately needed resources.
